A village near Sandbach is getting ready to stage its 19th festival of music and arts.

Organisers of this year's Goosfest festival in and around Goostrey say they have a record number of events, concerts and workshops.

Beginning with an art weekend at the end of September, and continuing into October with almost a fortnight of different activities, the organisers hope that there is something for everyone in the local community.

Goosfest committee chairman, Bill Ollier, said: "It takes us a year and more to plan and organise each festival, and our original objective still stands – to bring high-quality arts, music and other entertainment to the village at the lowest possible ticket prices – to make our events as accessible as we can to the local community.

"Goosfest is a not-for-profit organisation, and we're very grateful to all our volunteers and helpers, plus local organisations who support us."

Organised by a team of volunteers, what began as a folk weekend nearly two decades ago, has grown to one of the largest 'village' festivals in the country.

Although some events have sold out quickly, there is still some ticket availability for a wide variety of evening or daytime activities as revealed on the website here

This year's Goosfest begins with a three-day art exhibition of work by Northwest artists, from Friday September 25th to Sunday September 27th, 10am until 4pm each day in The Orchards Farm Barn, opposite Bidlea Dairy, Twemlow.

During the weekend, there is also a range of craft workshops, mostly centred around Cheshire Clay Studios at Lowes Farm, Byley, and a fascinating exhibition by Goostrey Archives in the Crown Pub on the Saturday, about the history of education in the village.

The weekend ends with a concert in Goostrey Parish Church by Warrington Male Voice Choir.

The festival of music and arts begins on Friday October 2nd with a sold-out concert in the Village Hall, 'Two Pianos' rock n' roll piano experience.

However, there are still tickets available to other events, via the festival website – Goosfest.com, including some availability for the headline show at Clonter Opera Theatre on Saturday October 10th – 'Jive Talkin' Bee Gees tribute show.

Other Goosfest events include Comedy Night, a play about Land Girls during WWII, poetry, classical and Americana music, lectures including 'Sex and The Tudors' and a Welsh-themed evening featuring a leading Tom Jones tribute act.

Throughout Goosfest main festival. From Friday October 2nd to Sunday October 11th, there will be a display by Goostrey Flower Club – 'A Year with Flowers' - in St Luke's Church from 10am 4pm each day.
