The West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed one man has died and another is in hospital following a collision on the M6 last night. 

Paramedics and emergency doctors were called to a collision between a lorry and a car near junction 15 of the M6 at 9:55pm on Thursday (February 27th). 

The driver of the lorry was confirmed dead at the scene and the driver of the car was treated for "potentially serious injuries" before being transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. 

An ambulance, a paramedic officer, a BASICS emergency doctor, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford were sent to the scene.

The M6 southbound remains closed today (Friday) morning between junction 16 and junction 15. 

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: "On arrival crews found two men. The first patient, the driver of the lorry, was found in a critical condition and sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

"The second patient, the driver of the car, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being conveyed under blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital."

Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes while Staffordshire Police investigations take place at the scene.

An update from Staffordshire Police said: "We remain at the scene of a serious collision on the M6 southbound just before J15. 

"The road will be closed for a number of hours while an investigation takes place. Please use alternative routes."
