A campaign group fighting plans for a major housing development to be built in Sandbach is urging as many residents as possible to send objections into Cheshire East Council's planning department.

The Muller Property Group has submitted plans here for 452 homes and a new spine road on land south of Houndings Lane at Sandbach.

The 32-hectare site is currently in agricultural use and is identified by Cheshire East as open countryside and an ecological network.

Malkins Bank Action Group is holding regular meetings and has come up with a campaign based on several points and has urged as many people as possible to send in their objections before the closing date, 4 September.

They say the development would harm wildlife, nature reserves and heritage, eroding the separation between Sandbach and Malkins Bank.

"There would be traffic congestion mayhem and there are dangerous implications for all users of our country lanes and roads. The ground is unstable due to brine extraction over 300 years."

They also say toxic landfill raises public health concerns risking contamination through the brine runs and there would be "disastrous" consequences for the water table.

But the Muller Property Group say the development is needed and will create a "sustainable new neighbourhood".

"Together, the two phases will deliver new homes alongside investment in schools, healthcare, sports facilities, transport infrastructure, extensive green spaces and community facilities."
