Meet Park Lane Wine Deli and Eatery's new owners who are carving out a new future
By Deborah Bowyer 15th Dec 2024
Park Lane Wine Deli and Eatery has been a firm fixture in Sandbach's gastronomic scene for several decades and its new owners, James Perrins and partner Emma Mayall, have no plans to change this.
Renowned chef, James and Emma are slowly putting their mark on the popular business, which stocks an array of wines and whiskies, not to mention tempting food.
The couple took over the business, whose website is here around seven weeks ago and one of their first jobs is making up around 300 festive hampers and getting ready for Christmas as well as organising an exciting new food offering for the New Year.
James ran the Barbridge Inn in Nantwich before taking up the reins at Park Lane Deli and has brought his love of cooking to the Sandbach business.
His freshly made sausage rolls are 'flying off the shelves', made using local produce, as are a number of other itemthe s such as quiches which are second nature to James, who first started cooking at the age of 16 and loves being a chef.
And the deli is also popular with those wanting breakfast or lunch, the latter which includes a menu of soups, salads and pastas and sandwiches served on garlic confit or rosemary and sea salt focaccia bread.
"The restaurant area attracted us and we're planning to do so much more with that," said James who has also worked at the Bear's Paw at Warmingham near Sandbach.
"I used to watch my dad, who's also a chef, cook curries and bolognese when I was little. I used to stand on a stool next to him and help," he said.
James used to employ around 20 staff at the Nantwich pub he ran but now there are just three full-time staff at Park Lane Deli.
"We've introduced a few things such as chilli jam and spiced mango, minted lamb, homemade quiches and freshly baked croissants.
"We're open 9 am until 8 pm except Sundays when we close at 4 pm. We're thinking of closing at 7 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays when it's quieter but that's just a thought at the moment."
James and Emma are busy making up the hampers, some of them corporate ones, varying in price from £15 to £400.
"We tailor the hampers to what a person wants. We want the products to be used and to play their part in someone's kitchen," said Emma.
As you would expect, the hampers feature various products from virgin olive oil to spicy tomatoes and chilli. Another hamper features extra virgin olive oil, bread dipper with smoked garlic and black peppercorn and extra virgin olive oil with lemon, mint and black pepper.
Another hamper includes truffle salt, white truffle flavoured extra virgin olive oil and mushroom and truffle sauce and a porcini wild mushroom powder shaker.
"I've still got a real passion for cooking," said James. "It's something I' e always loved doing."
