Work finally starts on building a 57-bed care home on the site of the former Limes pub in Sandbach

It's just over a year since the former Limes pub in Sandbach was bulldozed to the ground to make way for a new care home.
Little has happened on the site in Sweettooth Lane but this week earth moving equipment and construction staff were spotted on the site.
No details have been formally released but it's understood the land is being cleared so building work can finally start on the project which was the subject of a fire and vandalism when the former pub building was still on the site.
Plans to bulldoze the Limes and replace it with care home were given approval by Cheshire East Council last year.
A report from the council's planning officer then revealed that the care home proposed to cater for a mix of care options including residential care, dementia and nursing patients.
The Limes, on Sweettooth Lane, has been targeted by vandals on numerous occasions since it closed in 2019.
In May 2023 the building was torched by arsonists as we revealed here
The planning application was to build a C2 care home for use with bedroom only, and no apartments.
