Could you rescue Rosie?
Could you rescue Rosie?

Could you make one of these mutts wishes come true and give a dog a home this National Mutt Day?

The RSPCA loves all dogs of every shape, size, age and breed - and we have a real soft spot for our wonderful crossbreeds, mongrels and mutts.

This is National Mutt Day today (Friday 2 December) and the RSPCA is celebrating all of the wonderful pooches in its care, and is urging adopters to consider giving a rescue dog a second chance

Here are some of lovely crossbreeds currently looking for homes:

  • Two-year-old crossbreed Cody has been patiently waiting for the right home for over 14 months but is struggling to find the right match due to his nerves. He can be frightened of new people and new situations so needs someone who is willing to give him time to settle in and get to know him. Once he knows you, he's a playful, affectionate boy who loves his boys and is very clever. He needs an experienced home with owners who can commit to his ongoing training and behaviour needs.
  • Four-year-old German shepherd cross Kobe was brought overseas as a puppy before moving to the UK. He was taken in by the RSPCA over a year ago as his owners struggled to cope with his herding and guarding behaviour. He's come on well thanks to the team at Stubbington Ark - run by the RSPCA Solent branch - and can now make new friends within a few meetings.
  • Four-year-old Rosie arrived at RSPCA Staffordshire North Branch through no fault of her own. She is very strong, so requires somebody with experience to help in training her to walk nicely on a lead. She is full of love and doesn't realise her strength. She is a very happy playful girl, who also likes to chill out throughout the day as well as explore. She is very affectionate and responds well to food and treats - which will help with her training.
  • Six-year-old Bracken is thought to be a Rottweiler cross and has been in the care of the team at RSPCA Tameside & Glossop Branch for several months. Bracken is very affectionate once he gets to know people and absolutely loves to play fetch but he will need to meet his potential adopters several times before going home with them. His perfect family and home would be experienced with large dogs and have a large garden to play in. He needs an adult only home or one with children of secondary school age. He needs to be the only furry companion in the home but he is used to meeting other dogs outside.
  • Gorgeous Stella is a loving and lively girl who came into rescue with some health issues but with care and dedication from the RSPCA Keighley, Craven & Upper Wharfedale Branch team, she has improved and is now looking for someone to give her the love and training she needs. Stella is affectionate with the people she trusts and will do anything for a treat but can get a little over excited when meeting new people. Although a little strong when she first comes out of her kennel, she does walk nicely once settled and is calm when meeting other dogs. Stella needs a home without other pets or young children.
  • Playful Charlie, 8, arrived at RSPCA Brent Knoll in Somerset following a change in his owner's circumstances. Charlie is highly affectionate with familiar people and likes to play with a ragger toy or a squeaky one. He can be worried by unfamiliar people and would need time to build up a relationship with any potential adopters. He displays anxiety when around other dogs and is likely to live the happiest of lives by not having contact with dogs with exercise in secure private access areas.
  • Two-year-old Nigel arrived at RSPCA Brighton Branch after being rescued as a stray by another charity. He can be nervous of strangers but is quick to befriend people. He is a big lad who enjoys playing with toys and loves his food Nigel is looking for an experienced owner in a rural or semi-rural location and he will need his own garden.
  • Lola is a beautiful 6-year-old Staffie cross Ridgeback who is looking for her forever home through the RSPCA Chiltern Branch. She enjoys nothing more than having plenty of human attention and loves to curl up in her bed or on the sofa once she is tired from playing around with her toys or going on a walk. Having someone around most of the day would be perfect for Lola so that she can have all the attention she wants. She enjoys interacting with passing dogs and could live with another dog and children who are in secondary school. Since being with a foster family she has shown that she loves company in a home environment.
  • Strapping lad Prince is a lovely boy who is sweet right down to his core. Prince likes to come across as aloof and too sophisticated for affection when he first meets you, but once he knows you, he lets his goofy personality shine through. He would prefer affection on his own terms and would like a family that can understand and respect this. He is a very smart boy and would love a special person or family who can keep him busy and mentally stimulated. After spending time in noisy kennels, Prince has decided he would much prefer a quieter home where he can live an active life away from the hustle and bustle and frequent visitors. Prince would prefer an adult-only home with no other dogs so his new family will have time to concentrate on building his confidence. He would also like them to be at home most of the time, so he isn't alone.
