Meet the nine-year-old Sandbach bee keeper with a real buzz about his hobby
Youngster, Lucca Pickles, has a real buzz about his unusual hobby.
Most nine-year-old boys are busy on their X-Boxes or out on their bikes but there's a hive of activity about Lucca's favourite past time.
The eco-friendly school boy keeps bees and wants to sell his honey in Harrods and have 18 hives by the time he's 18.
And so interested in the subject that talented Lucca has even designed his own bee T-shirts and logo for his booming business.
"I just love everything about them," said Lucca of Sunnymill Drive, Sandbach, who got his first hive two years ago.
"My uncle had some bees in his garden and it started from there. I have been stung but it doesn't really bother me."
Lucca, a pupil at Offley Primary Academy, keeps his two hives at a location in Knutsford and visits them regularly to check on them.
He designed his own bee T-shirts, featuring a queen bee and uses the design on his jars of honey.
So popular is his honey, that it's been shipped to far-flung places such as Morocco, Belgium and even Paris.
Lucca has a regular list of local customers and helped make a bee-friendly garden at his primary school in Sandbach.
He has even made scented bee candles from the wax and he's helped in his hobby by parents, Lee and Jenny Pickles.
Mum, Jenny said: "The money he makes is ploughed back into the hives. It's a great thing for him to do. Each year it has a different taste."
Dad, a PE teacher at a school in Lymm, sometimes pops into check on the hives on his way home from work.
"We're so proud of Lucca. He has lots of customers, some of which buy it to help with their hay fever."
Lucca has his own Facebook page, 'Lucca's Honey and Beeswax Candles' the link for which is here
