Congleton MP and other dignitaries attended a service yesterday following the Armistice Day event at the Cenotaph.

Jordan's mum, Sally Gatley said: "We're incredibly proud of our son, Jordan Gatley and I think Sandbach should be too.

"This memorial bench, in his home town of Sandbach overlooking the cenotaph, is a fitting tribute to his military background and his contribution to the Ukraine war.

"We would like to thank Nicola Cook, Sandbach Town Council and Sandbach Partnership for allowing us to do this.

"…the plaque is a reminder of a local young man who wanted to make a difference and sadly paid the ultimate sacrifice.

"This memorial is in remembrance of his life and will help the memory of Jordan live on …

"Jordan gave his today so that others could have their tomorrow."

Jordan Gatley, a former pupil of Sandbach School, was shot and killed in the city of Severodonetsk, Ukraine in June 2022 as we revealed here

An adviser to the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted that Jordan was a "true hero" at the time of his death.

Jordan studied at Sandbach School before leaving to attend Reaseheath College in Nantwich to study public services before joining the Army.
