Staff at a sports coaching firm today (December 19) delivered more than 70 Christmas food hampers to a Crewe school after answering an SOS call for help.

The hampers filled with festive treats and food essentials went to Pupil Premium children who get additional help from education services.

Edleston Primary School in Denver Avenue reached out to Middlewich-based Sports Coaching Group managers in the last couple of weeks to talk to the firm about enrichment activities and holiday clubs at the school during Christmas.

While these talks took place, the Sports Coaching team found out that the school needed help in providing festival hampers for the children.

Chris Regan, Operations Director of Sports Coaching Group, told the school the company would be happy to put the hampers together, despite only having a few days to hit the deadline.

He said: "When we heard that the school needed help, we knew we had to step up.

"It's not every day you get the chance to make such a meaningful impact, especially for children and families in your community."

Mr Regan organised getting in bags and wrappings for the hampers and a massive shop at Aldi, which helped with the food supplies.

Then 10 members of the Sports Coaching Group team spent a day putting the hampers together before they were handed out.

Mr Regan added: "A big thanks to the coaches who helped to fill the hampers and for Aldi's incredible support at short notice.

"We were really up against the clock, but everyone showed great dedication to ensure the children will get the hampers in time."

The hampers were received at the school by headteacher Kirsty Goldsmith.

Sports Coaching Group had been working with the school since last April and is putting on holiday clubs at the school on January 2-3.
