Middlewich residents will be voting for a new town councillor next week.

Two candidates will be standing in the by-election for the Cledford ward which takes place on Thursday, November 10.

Both candidates – Helen Hignett-Clawson and Anne Price – are Independent.

The by-election has been called following the resignation of Laura Turner, who quit after just five months in post.

Mrs Turner, who was deputy mayor during that short period, is the sixth councillor to quit Middlewich Town Council in just over a year.

Gareth Williams resigned at the end of March and Dr Peter Hirst and Pauline Hickey quit in February.

David Latham resigned in October of last year and the previous month Chris Jones quit.

The by-election will take place on Thursday, November 10, and polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm.

The polling stations will be at St Mary's Parish Hall, New King Street and at Middlewich Methodist Church.
