A Sandbach actress is getting ready to play the part of her great grandmother, the feisty and formidable Hannah Corcoran, in a tribute to her late father's work.

The Saxon Players performed "Hannah's Left Hook" last year and tomorrow (Thursday) they take to the stage to perform the sequel "Hannah The Hammer" in Sandbach.

Actress Jo Sutton once again takes the part of her great grandmother, the feisty and formidable Hannah Corcoran.

And it's a real family affair, for Jo's daughter Caroline Tozer is also starring in the production, taking the role of Lilly.

As a founder member of Saxon Players, Jo says she is delighted and honoured to play the role of a lifetime - that of her great grandmother again - the formidable Hannah Corcoran.

The production is based on the book written by Jo's late father, Brian McKeown, about his own grandmother, the remarkable Hannah Corcoran, a Birkenhead housewife.

"Hannah The Hammer" sees the Saxon Players perform the concluding part to the acclaimed Hannah's Left Hook .

Last year's production took the story of this remarkable housewife from 1916 when her first husband was killed in the war up to the 1930s when she was planning to settle down to raise her family.

And as a famous Liverpudlian once said, life is what happens when you are making other plans.

The Saxon Players pick up the story in the current production, which starts tomorrow (March 30th) and runs until Saturday (April 1st).

A spokesperson for the Saxon Players said: "Hannah has already become a hero in her hometown. With the help of a devastating left hook, she became a champion for women at the shipyard during the great war, she defended the rights of the working class and unemployed during the great depression and she exposed political provocation during the food riots of 1932.

'Hannah The Hammer' runs at Sandbach Masonic Hall from tomorrow night (March 31st) until Saturday (April 1st)

"Now, with war once again on the horizon and three feisty daughters causing all sorts of trouble, she finds that she still has her work cut out.

"Whether it is a bully with a ferocious dog, a sergeant who drafts underage boys, or a son-in-law who shirks his family responsibilities, Hannah's left hook will always be there to ensure justice is done."

The second part has been named Hanner The Hammer and, because the story is told chronologically, audiences can still enjoy the it even if they didn't see the first part.

However, the performance will begin with a quick recap to set the scene to take the story right through until the 1970s.

Performances take place at Sandbach Masonic Hall from Thursday (March 30th) until Saturday (April 1st). Doors open at 7pm with performance starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from www.saxonplayers.com
