Residents in a potholed plagued road are waiting to see if a move to clear blocked drains will prevent more potholes appearing.

Both Abbey Road and London Road in Elworth are having drains jetted and cleared by Cheshire East Highways.

Drains in Abbey Road were jetted yesterday (Wednesday) and ones in London Road are due to be cleaned by the end of March.

The corner of Abbey Road and Middlewich Road often gets flooded following heavy rain and the road is forever having potholes filled.

Councillor Nicola Cook who represents the Elworth ward on Cheshire East Council has been reporting blocked drains in the two roads for over a year.

"Following a number of conversations with Highways, I have received confirmation this work will now be completed.

"You can see from the picture attached just how blocked the drains are, so I am delighted that this work will now take place."

Motoring organisation, the RAC, attended nearly 30,000 pothole-related breakdowns over the course of 2023, up by 33% compared to 2022.

The RAC estimated that, on average, there are around six potholes per mile on council-controlled roads in England and Wales.
