A new group to spread the word about crafting and learn new tips has got off to a flying start.

More than 20 people turned up to the inaugural meeting of the 'Knit & Natter' group at Wheelock Congregational Church in Sandbach on Wednesday (February 15th).

Organisers, Lynn Morris and Lena Porter, could hardly believe their eyes when around 20 or more people turned up to the group.

"We had to put out an extra table. It was really good to see so many people here," said Lynn, who has been knitting for 40 years.

"It's so nice to do knitting, crocheting and crafting in a lively, fun environment. Craft is definitely alive here."

Crafters brought along knitting, crocheting and even cross stitch, some of which were projects which had been started but never finished.

And now the new group is planning an activity together – to knit blankets to send to Turkey to help families keep warm following the devastating earthquakes.

"I floated the idea at the first event and people seemed to like the idea so we will wait and see.

"It would be a lovely to do and we could all work on this project together."

'Knit & Natter' is free and it takes place on the third Wednesday of each month between 1 pm and 3 pm.

The next one will be on March 15th. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

Wheelock Congregational Church is on the corner of Crewe Road and Hind Heath Road in Sandbach.
