Sandbach's MP, Sarah Russell, recently joined volunteers from the Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group to help with their conservation project in Dingle Wood.

She helped remove invasive Himalayan balsam and learnt about the group's ongoing efforts to improve and protect the local woodland.

Himalayan Balsam is a fast-growing invasive plant that is widespread across the area. While attractive in appearance, Himalayan balsam can crowd out native plants, reduce biodiversity, and leave riverbanks vulnerable to erosion when it dies back in winter.

Members of Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group are also currently constructing a new bridge to improve access for walkers and have carried out extensive repairs to paths throughout the woodland.

Sarah Russell MP for the Congleton constituency said: "It was fantastic to spend the morning with the dedicated volunteers from the Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife Group and see first-hand the incredible work they are carrying out in Dingle Wood.

"The volunteers give up countless hours of their own time to care for this woodland and keep it accessible for everyone to enjoy.

"I would like to thank them for their hard work, commitment, and passion for protecting one of our communities many treasured green spaces."

Sarah Russell MP chairs the Gardening and Horticulture All-Party Parliamentary Group and has committed to continue to advocate for local green spaces and environmental conservation in Parliament.

"Himalayan Balsam is a significant challenge in many local woodlands, so every helping hand makes a difference.

"Our volunteers are passionate about protecting and improving the woodland for wildlife and visitors alike.
