Eagle-eyed residents may have noticed that a weight restriction sign has appeared in a Sandbach road plagued by heavy lorries.

There's already a no entry sign except for access at the top of Abbey Road in Elworth with a weight restriction for lorries over 7.5-ton.

Now a no entry sign for lorries over 7.5-ton weight has been installed at the bottom of Abbey Road, after pressure from residents.

One resident, who didn't want to be named, told how their house regularly shook as heavy lorries went up and down the road.

The resident contacted one Elworth councillor, Cllr Nicola Cook to help while another Elworth councillor, Cllr Kathryn Flavell said she had used part of her ward budget as a Cheshire East councillor to get the work done.

"There has been a weight limit on Abbey Road for at least three years, but there was no sign at the bottom end. I have been pushing for this for at least 18 months," said Cllr Flavell,

"Highways didn't think it was needed as there is a sign on the Miola roundabout. However, I insisted and finally got it agreed as part of my ward budget spend. I'm also pushing for a 'no right turn for HGVs at the Lodge Road junction. "

The new sign means lorries over this weight limit are now faced with a 'no entry' sign at the bottom of Abbey Road.

In a separate matter, residents at the bottom of Abbey Road on the tree lined side have successfully fought to get this section of Abbey Road included in the road sweeping to clear slippy leaves away.
