A Sandbach based gin business has launched a special edition tipple in a miniature bottle for Christmas.

And the gin – whose name and label plays on the history of the area it's named after – is being launched tomorrow (Saturday) at Sandbach Makers Market.

Wheelock gin is being sold in 5cl bottles and features a label with the River Wheelock on the label.

The gin is made by the Wheelock-based Winding River Distillery founded by Matthew and Suzanne Fox (pictured above).

Wheelock is named after the River Wheelock which runs through it. The name is derived from an old Welsh source meaning "winding river".

It was first recorded in the Domesday Book as Hoileck/Holloch, later changing to Quelock and then Whelock before becoming Wheelock.

Matthew said: "The label is a bit of a history lesson on the name Wheelock with the river in the background as an effect.

"It's a London Dry Gin and containing - juniper berries, lemon peel, orange peel, coriander seeds, angelica root, liquorice root and orris root."

The 5cl miniature will sell for £6 and is a special edition only available in the run up to Christmas
