A new sweet shop and slush bar has opened in Crewe town centre - completely filling a once derelict street.

The sweet shop was last located on Hightown and began on High Street.

Truly Scrumtious has now relocated to a bigger store in Crewe as well as expanding into Nantwich - with both boasting new slush bars.

"Three years ago we had a conversation that we would open an old-fashioned sweet shop," said Mr O'Connor.

The new town centre new slush bar has 12 rare favours. This includes: Cream Soda, Pina Colada, Cherry Cola, Skittles, Tropical and Dandelion & Burdock.

It has been a roaring success in Nantwich and Mr O'Connor expects the same for Crewe.

The 50-year-old told Nub News: "I went down High Street, saw an empty shop and thought we will start there.

"We looked for a bigger unit and couldn't find one except for Hightown. It was too hot in there and had been badly converted into a shop.

"I was walking into town one day and I literally walked past here and saw the signs in the window.

"I said this is where we need to be. It has taken us 10 months to get this shop as Asda lease it but don't own it."

Truly Scrumtious has joined Crafterama Corner, Tailoring Service Joanna and The Cobblers Cafe and Deli Farm Shop in opening on Victoria Street within the past 12 months,

Mr O'Connor said the businesses' success is down to its traditional approach to sweets.

He said: "We aren't just a sweet shop. People travel four or five miles to come here.

"Customers like the fact they can choose hundreds of sweets.

"We mix our sweets up and constantly change a number of them while keeping the favourites."

The joint-business owners both came from customer service backgrounds.

This has helped them to understand the importance of delivering high-quality standards in the South Cheshire sweet shops.

Miss Barry said: "We have both come from a customer service background and I think that is the key to this shop..

"It's a passion, it's not just a job or a business, it's all about an experience here that the kids don't get from the supermarkets."

The new Truly Scrumtious Crewe store was originally hoped to open this summer.

It was delayed by two months due to paperwork issues.

Mr O'Connor added: "Someone went on holiday, someone had COVID, nobody else do could the job.

"I was supposed to sign the paperwork on the 15 July but I got it on 17 September."

"We thought when we closed the Crewe store it would just be a couple of weeks but it was the Nantwich store we opened first in the end."

Truly Scrumtious is launching a new milkshake bar inside the store from this Saturday - October 15 (Ryan Parker).
