Residents in a village near Sandbach today (Friday) welcomed a new store to the area which has created 16 jobs.

Tesco has opened a Tesco Express in Holmes Chapel, taking over the former Co-op store in Church Walk.

A balloon arch welcomed customers to the new store and manager, Charles Istead, said customer feedback had been good.

The premises has been closed since early January, for Tesco to convert and fit out the new store.

"We're been busy all day and we're hoping this store becomes part of the community and keeps customers in Holmes Chapel," said Mr Istead (pictured above) who has transferred from a Tesco store in Northwich.

A Tesco spokesperson said "We're extremely excited to have opened our new Holmes Chapel Express store to help to serve the local community and continue to offer great value to our customers with a wide product range alongside the benefits of Tesco Clubcard and Clubcard Prices to our customers."
