North West Air Ambulance is flying high – thanks to quiz goers at a Sandbach event.

A fundraising quiz organised by the Mayor of Sandbach for his adopted charity, the North West Air Ambulance, was a massive success.

The event, held at Sandbach town hall at the weekend along with a tombola late last year, has raised a bumper £1,500.

Now the charity, which receives no Government funding, is set to receive the money at a future date.

Every year, the town mayor nominates a charity and Councillor Price Jones named the North West Air Ambulance charity for this year – a cause close to his heart.

Cllr Price Jones said: "This charity is one of the most important in the UK alongside the RNLI as they save countless lives each year.

"We have two air ambulance stations in the North West and we are served by Barton in Greater Manchester.

"The service is entirely funded by the charitable donations and we need to keep up the momentum as the costs rise every year.

"The charity came to my notice last year as my daughter, a local paramedic, had to assist a patient who needed assistance in the helicopter all the way to the hospital."

The North West Air Ambulance Service operates 365 days a year and attended more than 2,500 incidents last year.

The crew delivers enhanced pre-hospital care to the most critically ill and injured and transports patients to the most appropriate hospital to achieve the best outcomes.

North West Ambulance Service receives no Government or NHS funding and has to raise more than £9.5 million to keep operational.

Cllr Price Jones said: "£1,500 is the total we have raised so far from the tombola, selling North West Air Ambulance Christmas cards and the quiz.

"We will need to await a final total once sealed charity boxes are counted by NWAA.

"I would like to thank all the council staff for their hard work and local businesses and individuals who donated prizes and for everyone who came along to the quiz and made it such a good night."
