Former professional singer, Vanessa Skinner, is set to hear recordings made when she was blasting the tunes out with her band in the 1990s - thanks to Repair Cafe Sandbach.

The 55-year-old was clearing out her loft in her Sandbach home when she came across her trendy yellow retro 'Walkman' given to her by her mum as a present.

Nearby was a bag full of vintage cassettes, some containing her favourite music from the time and others containing recordings of her singing when she toured the country with a band.

Vanessa tried to get the Walkman working but realised it had broken so she took it along to the Repair Cafe Sandbach, run by Sandbach Partnership, whose website is here, last weekend to see if they could fix it.

"A very nice gentleman told me exactly what was wrong with it and advised I ordered some new elastic 'bands' which will had become loose and were no longer gripping the 'gears'.

"I went on to Amazon and found them so I'm just waiting for them to arrive then I can fit them. He showed me how to do it.

"It's a brilliant thing to have a repair cafe in the town which is held monthly and works on donations. There are so many talented repairers. It's nice to get something working again. I can't wait to hear me singing again""

Vanessa, who moved to Sandbach two years ago and works in social media, was also a backing singer in her youth and is now thinking about going back to singing.

"I think my voice is a bit deeper now but I am singing constantly. I just want to hear my voice from back in the day. We recorded a record which I've still got," she said.

"I'm so impressed with the Repair Cafe - it's such a brilliant facility for Sandbach and now hopefully I'll be able to take a little trip down memory lane with my singing."
