Organisers get ready to stage Smallwood Steam and Vintage Rally this weekend

Organisers of a major three-day event near Sandbach are getting ready for this year's event.

Smallwood Steam and Vintage Rally near Sandbach is on this weekend and organisers are promising it will be bigger and better than ever before.

Classic cars, traction engines, lorries and a raft of other vehicles are all part of the event which runs from Saturday (May 24th) until Monday (May 26th).

The event attracts crowds of visitors from far and wide, many camping for the occasion.

A spokesperson said: "Our popular tractor pulling will be in action daily over the weekend and unique to Smallwood Rally there will be pulling by floodlight. ​"

"Children’s entertainment includes the popular sand pit plus the regular fairground and other entertainment.

​"The highlight of the Saturday entertainment will see Cheshire K9 Dog Display Teams, Jema Leopold's Troupe Of Shetland Ponies, steam parade and dog and duck.

​"The popular military arena, will be back in action where tanks and other large army vehicles will show off their skills.

"We also thank our existing show sponsors - Hampton's Scrap Metal dealersm Tidysite Skip Hire, Arclid Transport, Mr Whippy Ice cream and Haslington Haulage for their continued and generous support."

Sandbach model engineer Philip Owston has been there on several occasions with one of his pride and joys - the Pride of Sandbach (pictured below). 

The steam engine features the Fred Hackney road transport name, a company which was based in Sandbach.  

Vintage classic car are a feature of the event which also has modern vehicle exhibits, classic campers, engines, military vehicles, tanks, steam engines and much more plus an array of stalls.
