A burst of more colour is coming to Sandbach railway station this summer - thanks to volunteers.

The Friends of Sandbach station, FOSS, the voluntary group that spends hours each month maintaining that station's appearance has installed another big planter on the Manchester-bound platform 2.

And the project doesn't stop there - for FOSS will shortly be constructing seating area to surround the feature.

FOSS chairman, Christian Shawcross said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to rail passengers for donations at the monthly café which bolstered the financial support given by three railway-associated concerns without which the project would not have been possible."

The Community Rail Partnership, Northern Rail and Transport for Greater Manchester have all contributed to the project.
