Part of a car park in Sandbach town centre is currently closed off for drainage work – less than a year after it was resurfaced.

Sandbach Small Common car park was resurfaced last year as we told here as part of a revamp project by Sandbach Town Council.

Bollards were put in place as part of the project which have now been replaced with a barrier and work is currently taking place to correct a drainage issue.

Deputy mayor and town ward councillor, John Arnold, said: "There's some work being done to move the drainage grate.

"Water wasn't draining properly from the car park since the recent resurfacing so as part of the original contract to resurface the car park the firm that did the work has agreed to come back and put it right.

"At the same time we've got a new barrier going in to replace the black bollards that were previously there.

"The barrier is a safety device meant to protect car park users from vehicles entering or passing the Small Commons car park. It's something we've been advised that we need.

"That's why the black bollards were there but those didn't work out so well. The new barrier is less out in the middle of the car park and much more visible."
