Sandbach residents have been urged to hold onto their charity shop donations until the end of lockdown after items were left outside of a closed Oxfam.

A suitcase surrounded by bags and other items were pictured on Monday evening on the shop's doorstep on Bold Street.

Under the current lockdown restrictions, non-essential shops must remain closed, including charity shops, with most not accepting goods' donation.

The picture has been shared on Facebook with some commenters comparing the picture to fly-tipping. "It will be drenched and rotten by the time the shop has reopened and will cost the charity money to dispose of it," one user said.

A spokesperson from Oxfam said: "With our network of shops now closed, we are asking people to hang on to their much-welcomed donations until shop doors are open again.

"People can continue to support Oxfam by shopping the Oxfam Online Shop, which is home to thousands of unique books, clothes and homewares. Money raised from the sale of second-hand items goes to Oxfam's work with communities around the world fighting hunger and Covid."

The charity added that they will be looking for volunteers to assist with the lockdown clear-outs once they reopen to raise "as much money as possible". Click here to sign up.
