Plans have been submitted to build 15 affordable homes on land off Meadowbank Avenue at Wheelock.

John Stephens & Co, together with Jigsaw Homes Group, have applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to build eight flats, three mews houses, three semi-detached properties and one detached home on the site.

The land is located on the eastern edge of Wheelock with some of the site forming part of the Zan Industrial Estate, accessed via Crewe Road.

It can also be accessed by Zan Drive, near the traffic lights on Crewe Road.

A design and access statement submitted by Jay Ashall Partnership, on behalf of the applicants, states: "The industrial buildings have been demolished, leaving a now vacant brownfield site.

"As the site is unused and vacant, there will be no loss of employment or reduction of employment levels resulting from any proposals on the site."

It adds the site is close to the centre of Wheelock which offers a range of amenities including a school, churches, newsagent, restaurants, pubs, gym, and farm shop and there are several bus stops.

At the time of writing, four letters of objection have been sent to the council from nearby residents.

Among their objections include claims Wheelock cannot support any more housing because of pressure on existing infrastructure; Meadowbank Avenue is a quiet street and cannot support the extra traffic without posing a risk to residents and fears that the site is contaminated.

The application, number 22/4609C , can be viewed on the planning portal on the council's website and the last date for the public to submit comments is January 5th, 2023.

The scheme is due to be determined by a planning officer under delegated authority.
