Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a Smallwood man died after being hit by a car in the Staffordshire Peak District.

Staffordshire police were called to serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A523 at Rushton Spencer on Sunday at 3.55pm.

The pedestrian, Alec Heywood, 23, who lived in Smallwood, near Sandbach, was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with life-threatening head injuries and sadly died the following day on Monday (May 2nd).

A police spokesperson said: "His family continue to be supported by specially-trained officers and have asked for privacy at this difficult time."

Police are asking for anyone who may have seen the vehicle or pedestrian before the collision or anyone with relevant dash cam footage to message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 316 of April.
