Police are cracking down on heavy goods vehicles contravening a weight restriction signs in Sandbach.

Residents on Abbey Road in Elworth have complained about the number of HGVs ignoring the 7.5 tonne no entry sign going up the road.

Now a HGV driver has been issued with a Traffic Office Report (TOR) after they contravened the weight restriction in Abbey Road.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Following concerns from local residents regarding HGVs using weight-restricted roads, PC Steele issued a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) after an HGV driver contravened the weight restriction on Abbey Road, Elworth.

"Weight limits are in place for a reason, helping to protect our roads, reduce damage to local infrastructure, and keep our communities safe.

"Drivers are reminded to follow all road signage and ensure their chosen route is suitable for their vehicle.

"We will continue to monitor the area and take action where offences are identified. Thank you to everyone who continues to report concerns to us."

Cheshire East's Elworth ward councillor, Nicola Cook, welcomed the move.
