Resident calls for HGVS to be banned from driving through Sandbach town centre

A Sandbach resident has called for HGVs to be stopped from driving through Sandbach town centre following an accident with a 91-year-old pedestrian.
More lorries are coming off the M6 and driving through the town centre since work began on the building of the Middlewich bypass and various new housing estate developments in Sandbach.
Now Sarah Bradley has called for HGVs to be banned from town centre roads and instead use alternative routes to get to their destination.
Her comments come after a 91-year-old woman was taken to hospital last month here following a collision with a HGV in Hightown, Sandbach.
Sarah Bradley said: "In my opinion construction HGV's should NOT be driving through the town centre.
"Why do we allow construction HGV's to travel through town centres? Isn't this what the bypass is for?
Something needs to be done about this and soon as more and more large trucks are being used to construct nearby sites and the Middlewich bypass, this will only increase when the other developments that have planning permission commence.
"This could be done under a TRO traffic regulation order banning all vehicles over 7.5T from the town centre - except for access ie. deliveries, emergency services, refuse trucks."
Councillor Mark Goldsmith, Cheshire East Council's cabinet member for highways and transport, said previously: "I'd like to apologise to any residents who may have been impacted by the recent increase in construction traffic associated with the Middlewich Eastern Bypass project.
"We are working closely with our construction partner to manage vehicle movements and minimise disruption wherever possible.
"This construction traffic is supporting the delivery of a major new 1.6-mile route to the east of Middlewich, including new canal and railway bridges, three new roundabouts and new walking and cycling connections.
"We will continue to monitor construction traffic as work progresses and work with our contractor to minimise its impact on surrounding communities."
