Sandbach Town Council has thanked people who sent messages of support after they have to cancel Party in the Park due to storms.

The annual event, which would have featured the town's world-famous Foden's Band and Sandbach School Big Band, was due to be held last Saturday at Sandbach Park.

The town council cancelled the event just hours before the event due to bad weather.

Katy Pepper, deputy chief officer said: "I'm grateful to everyone for the empathetic messages received, following the event update, and to all the participants, suppliers and ticket holders who were incredibly understanding and supportive of the necessity to cancel.

"Several staff and councillors were at the site through to late evening and, based on the weather which arrived and remained with us, it was – though disappointing for all - the correct decision."

The town council announced on social media: "With heavy heart and after endless weather checks since the early hours, the decision has been taken to cancel Party in the Park due to predictions of storms.

"We take the safety of our participants, volunteers and suppliers at all events extremely seriously and have been closely monitoring the forecast storms.

"Originally, the end of evening outlook was promising but this is now not the case and as such, the event would not be the safe and enjoyable environment we want to provide for the special event.

"We are so very disappointed to cancel and stress that rain would never stop us! We entirely expect and always prepare for that, but storms are not something we would ask anyone on site to risk. Thanks to all for your support and understanding."
