A retired theatre sister has shared the ingenious board game she developed years ago to help staff learn vital information – thanks to her award-winning home care provider.

Right at Home South Cheshire, one of the top 20 homecare providers in the Northwest has been looking after 78-year-old former theatre sister Caroleen in her home in Sandbach for the last three years.

During her role in the theatres at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Caroleen was presented with the task of developing a method to help the staff learn essential information effectively.

She recognised the importance of ensuring that they had a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology, anaesthesia procedures and the overall functioning of the theatre environment.

She came up with an ingenious idea to engage the staff through a dynamic and interactive game and at the end of last year, Caroleen rediscovered her game at home.

"The game was designed to test their knowledge and help them learn in a fun and engaging way," said a spokesperson for Right at Home South Cheshire, recognised as one of the top 20 homecare providers in the Northwest by independent review website, homecare.co.uk.

"Staff members were presented with a series of questions covering various aspects of their work.

"For instance, they were asked about specific surgical procedures, such as when a Bassini Repair might be used (answer: hernia).

"We are grateful to Caroleen for sharing this special find with us, as it allows us to appreciate her creativity, ingenuity, and the positive influence she has had on those around her.

"Her legacy continues to inspire us, and we are honoured to have her as a cherished client."

Carole Salmon, Right at Home South Cheshire and Mid Cheshire's community engagement manager said: "Through her game, Caroleen has not only imparted valuable knowledge but also brought joy and camaraderie to all who have had the pleasure of participating.
