Residents living on a new estate in Sandbach have slammed developers for leaving unfinished paths and roads which they say are dangerous not only to motorists but also to anyone walking through the estate.

They say the developers, Clarion, have left the roads and footpaths on Broadmeadow Park in a "terrible" state despite many homeowners living on the estate for over two years.

One resident, retired university lecturer, Dr Fred Murphy, says he has had two punctures in tyres on his car and he's worried about pedestrians using the footpaths tripping over on the unmade up surfaces.

Now residents are calling on developers, Clarion, and Cheshire East Council to sort the problem out - which also includes road names not being put up on the estate.

Dr Murphy, who lives in Merelake Way, says the street names are still stacked up in a pile on a piece of land opposite a new row of housing.

"It's ridiculous," he said. "No one knows where we live because street names haven't been put up. The state of the roads is awful.

"They have left the roads and footpaths in a terrible state. There are pot holes, unfinished drains, poor lighting, no street signs and it is a safety issue.

"Having lived on new developments before, we understand that the completion of the roads is a slow process, but this is excessive and we are being ignored by the developers.

"There is a significant lack of communication and we are left to live on an unfinished estate full of holes and dangerous paths."

A Clarion spokesperson said: "We understand residents' concerns and are committed to resolving the outstanding road and footpath works at Broadmeadow Park as quickly and safely as possible.

"Maintenance work has already been undertaken to improve road conditions and lighting, and we are working closely with specialist contractors and relevant authorities to address and resolve the drainage situation.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep residents updated as progress is made."

Cheshire East councillor for the Elworth ward which the development falls into, Cllr Nicola Cook said: "When residents buy or rent a house, they don't just live in bricks and mortar, they live in a space that they want to call a home.

"This means that they live in a community which has well maintained green spaces, where the roads feel safe, and they can look forward to developing links with friends, family and neighbours.

"Sadly residents are having to wait far too long for the estate to be completed. Despite residents' best efforts there really isn't a clear plan as to how these things are going to be addressed, and communication with householders has not been good enough.

"I have written to Clarion to request a meeting and I am waiting for a response. I will do all I can to try and resolve this both with and on behalf of residents."
