A Sandbach-based TV director will be glued to the TV on Boxing Day when the Death in Paradise Christmas special is aired.

Ruth Carney, who lives in Sandbach Heath, has directed the hit British-French crime drama series in previous episodes.

The talented former Talke Pits girl, who has directed a host of productions from Casualty to Father Brown and Emmerdale, has also directed Brassic.

And she will be carefully watching this year's Death in Paradise special when it's aired on BBC One on Boxing Day at 9 pm.

Ruth has a wealth of experience and talent in the industry. She did an MA in Theatre Directing in Russia and Middlesex after her degree at the University of Sheffield

She also knows the island where the drama is filmed Guadeloupe well. She spent several weeks filming for the hit TV crime drama while working for the drama.

The plot for this year's Christmas special sees entrepreneur Gerry Stableforth (Geoff Bell) found dead in a ravine.

Neville and co are drafted in to solve the mystery surrounding his death but does  Gerry's wife Bella (Patsy Kensit) know more than she's letting on?

Ruth, who has a soft spot for the series, said: "It's such a great drama and one the whole family can watch.

"It's very funny and shows the island which is such a beautiful unspoilt place."
