A Sandbach student and a Member of Youth Parliament for Cheshire East has spoken in the House of Commons.

Oliver Probert-Hill attended the annual sitting of UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons with more than 200 other Members of Youth Parliament.

The event is an opportunity for young people to speak in Parliament on issues that matter to them and this time it was about free school meals.

Oliver, a student at Sandbach College said: "It was an excellent day that wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the amazing work of the UK Youth Parliament and House of Commons teams.

"We spoke on five separate topics - holiday hunger, quality of food, standardisation, financing and funding and additional pricing.

"The highlight of the day was speaking in the Commons itself and hearing from other passionate young people about politics and the state of the world."

Members of Youth Parliament are elected every two years by other young people in their local area, as we revealed in this article here

Any 11–18-year-old can stand or vote in the election. During his term of office, Oliver will have the chance to get involved in a variety of events, projects and campaigns.
