Woof, woof! Meet Bella, an eight year old 'apricot' coloured Cockerpoo from Sandbach, who might be in for a special treat later to celebrate her special day!

Today is International Dog Day when dog owners everywhere are celebrating man's best friend who bring so much love to so many people.

The day was originally founded in 2004 by animal welfare advocate Collen Paige to encourage people to adopt and celebrate all canines.

Dogs are renowned for their therapeutic qualities and bringing calm and happiness to their owners and admirers.

The dog in the photograph is Bella – the pet of Sandbach Nub News' regional editor and Sandbach resident, Deborah Bowyer.

Bella spends her days next to Deborah as her "doggy assistant" watching her write and edit Sandbach Nub News.

"I had never had dogs before only cats but we wouldn't be without her now. She gives so much love and adds so much to family life," said Deborah. "She has a wonderful character."
