A virtually empty store greeted customers at Sandbach's M & Co which closes today (Thursday).

Sandbach's M & Co store was a shadow of its former self today (Thursday) as staff prepared to close for good.

The Penda Way premises had all but a few rails of clothing left and rows of empty mannequins stood at the back.

Staff were too upset to talk and would only say that many, one of whom had been there for 18 years, were still looking for jobs.

The privately-owned UK chain has blamed increasing costs and decreasing customer confidence for its downfall.

M&Co is closing all of its 170 stores with an estimated 2,000 jobs lost nationally.

The nearby Congleton M & Co store closes on Saturday (April 15th).

Nub News announced here in December https://sandbach.nub.news/news/local-news/sandbach-mco-go-into-administration-and-begin-closing-stores-162725?fbclid=IwAR2jD5iaepQJxY5eGePX2CyJ37LQaVhgff1nx6x-w7F6auvGoULzY9RO-MY how M & Co was going into administration.

M&Co failed to find a buyer for all of its physical stores - with the brand now owned by AK Retailer Holdings at auction.
