Sandbach: Campaign to revamp

A Cheshire East councillor has launched a campaign with another resident to breathe new life into an overgrown playground.
Ettiley Heath and Wheelock councillor Laura Crane, who is also a Town Councillor, has joined forces with Wheelock resident, Sam Porter, to tidy up the Forge Fields playground.
Sam originally put a post on Facebook saying: "I've been a resident of the area for some years now and have noticed it getting a bit worse for wear and could do with a few areas tidying up, some fresh paint on the equipment.
"Out of interest, are there any residents that would be open to some volunteer work as part of a "Friends of Forge Fields Playground" group to maintain the playground when necessary.
Sam and Cllr Crane met at the playground on Sunday and now they have launched the Friends of Forge Fields Playground page on Facebook and are calling a meeting in September for volunteers to come forward.
Cllr Crane, who has four children, says she has been coming to the playground for the last 15 years and is sad it has become "unloved".
She said: "It's a wonderful facility but it just needs tidying up. All it needs is a few hours' work and it would make all the difference.
"The two benches need work on them. The plants have just become overgrown which means it's difficult to see parts of the playground.
"For example if you're sitting on the far bench you can't see the far gate. Litter bins have become hidden and the area generally needs tidying up."
Sam, who lives nearby in Crewe Road, likes to take his nephews to the playground but has become increasingly frustrated at its overgrown state.
Both Sam and Cllr Crane would like to add a toddler slide for very small children and they are hoping to secure funding in the future.
Anyone who is interested in helping out can leave a message on the group's Facebook page – Friends of Forge Fields Playground.
