A group of talented singers and musicians have added the finishing touches to their next performance.

But the singers are no ordinary singers and are set to hit all the right notes when they performed in front of on a packed audience on Saturday night (March 9th).

They are members of the accomplished Sandbach Choral Society who perform their Spring Concert at St Peter's Church Hall in Elworth.

Sandbach Nub News joined the singers and musicians at a recent rehearsal to learn more about this wonderful group.

Former Sandbach Mayor and Elworth ward town councillor, Kathryn Flavell, is the society's current chairman.

"We do sacred choral work. The style of music we do tends to be classical short masses and often a bit jazzy," said Kathryn who has been involved in music all her life and was formerly head of performing arts at a school.

"When I moved to the area in 2015, I looked for a choir and saw Sandbach Choral Society and joined. They're a great bunch of people. It's a lovely atmosphere here."

Last year, residents may remember hearing Kathryn singing the Welsh National Anthem and Royal Britannia at a 'Last Night of the Proms' style event at Sandbach Rugby Club celebrating the coronation of King Charles III.

"Being in a choir is such a good way of socialising and meeting people. We organise social events and recently held a fundraising quiz. It's a fun thing to be involved with," she said.

There are about 45 members of Sandbach Choral Society, whose musical director is the talented Stephen Newlove, an assistant director of music at a school in Stockport.

Many of the members of the choir have been with the group for several years and so renowned is the group that many travel from outside of Sandbach to be members.

Adrian Smith from Nantwich has been with the society for many years as well as singing with other choirs before that. The group does 'warming up' vocal exercises before they start, ensuring muscles are stretched and they are ready to sing.

They do a Spring, Summer and Christmas concert but it's not just concerts the group does. Sandbach Choral Society has also performed at weddings and funerals and ever Christmas they do a concert in a local care home.

Described as a "friendly, enthusiastic choir with a mission to bring choral music alive to the local community" they are a credit to the town which is lucky to have so much musical expertise from world-renowned Foden's Band to local schools.

Tickets for tomorrow's concert at St Peter's Church Hall in Elworth cost £11.50 in advance and £12.50 on the door with children under 16 free. Good luck to all taking part.

The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm at New Horizons church hall in Crewe Road, Wheelock. The link to their website is here
