A Sandbach farmer has opened an 'honesty farm shop' to sell local produce.

Chris Wardle, (pictured below) who farms at Crows Nest Farm in Mill Lane, Moston erected a shed with shelves to sell produce.

The shop, open seven days a week, sells eggs, vegetables, fruit, jams and even plants.

A blackboard inside details prices of the fruit and vegetables and customers weigh their own produce on an old-fashioned weighing machine, leaving their payment.

Plans are also in the pipeline to install a fridge so Bidlea milk and cheese can be sold.

Although not manned, Chris is at work on the nearby farm, so can see customers come and go.

Chris said: "We were selling eggs and people asked if we had any fruit and vegetables to sell.

"Everything is grown locally. We have canal boats moored by and they love being able to walk to the farm shop.

"Once we've got a fridge, we can then sell milk and cheese. It's great for local residents who can just walk here."

A sign at the top of Mill Lane on Middlewich Road points customers in the direction of the farm shop.

The shop is already proving a big hit with local residents, who say their children love going along to weigh the produce.

"My children had great fun on the weighing machine. It's a good way of getting them to calculate how much things cost," said one mum.
