SANDBACH firefighters got on their bikes for a marathon ride to raise funds for the Firefighters Charity and the Movember Charity.

But the officers didn't have to leave their station at The Commons to complete their amazing fundraiser last Saturday.

Working in relay they started out at 7.20 am and spent the day covering 459 miles - which is the equivalent of cycling from Sandbach Fire Station to every fire station in Cheshire.

To keep in line with Covid-19 protocol, the officers teamed up in pairs in front of the station where they were kitted out in standard kits and Movember moustaches.

With gift aid their online total through JustGiving has reached £1,183.57.

Fire officer Mike Lamey said: "We all got stuck in and between us cycled the 459 miles.

"I'd like to thank all our firefighters who took part and those who contributed to the more than £1,000 total raised.

"The money raised was a combination of donations online and from family, friends and members of the public. The money will go to the Firefighters Charity and the Movember Charity, which raises funds and awareness for men's health."
