The poppies are up and the Bikers Branch of the Royal British Legion has roared into town to launch the 2026 poppy appeal.

Rain and wind may have battered the town on Saturday (24 October) but crowds still turned out to see motorbikes ride into town as part of their tour of the area.

Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Judy Snowball and Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Sam Corcoran plus members of the Sandbach Branch of the British Legion and their new standard bearer Fin Smith were there to see the bikers arrive.

Rev Jeff Cattell, himself a member of the Bikers branch of the Royal British Legion, conducted a brief service at the War Memorial on Market Square at 3pm before the two minutes' silence.

Collections for this year's local appeal are taking place in a variety of locations all in preparation for the big day on Sunday, 8 November.

And this year's event in Market Square is set to be bigger and better than before. Sandbach Town Council has increased its budget for the day to £5,770.

Councillor John Arnold said at the recent full council meeting: "This is one of the most important events of the year and I back the move to extend the budget."
