Residents in Clay Lane, Haslington were evacuated on Saturday and the road closed for six hours when a fire broke out in an outbuilding.

Eight fire engines from seven stations - Crewe, Middlewich, Winsford, Holmes Chapel, Macclesfield and Congleton were sent to the blaze in a garage and workshop.

Firefighters spent 20 hours at the scene from 5.15 pm on Saturday until 3pm yesterday and an investigation is now underway into the cause of the blaze.

Crews used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots after it was established there were cylinders inside the building and a 200 metre cordon was set up as a precaution. A small number of nearby residents were evacuated.

The building was split into three sectors and firefighters used four hose reel jets and main jets to put the blaze out. A water shuttle had to be used due to the rural nature of the blaze.

A spokesman from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

"It was established that there are cylinders inside the affected building, so firefighters used hose reel jets to cool the cylinders and a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

"There were no reports of any casualties."

Nearby Lakemore Farm Park in Clay Lane was unaffected by the blaze.

Owner Debbie Lewis told Nub News today: "When I came to work early yesterday morning the road was open.

"We're across the road from this but luckily the wind wasn't blowing in that direction. I am just glad everyone is ok."
