Sandbach man, Dave Hursthouse, is getting ready to take on a triathlon challenge to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Dave, who volunteers with the Porthdinllaen Lifeboat Crew in Wales, will be taking part in Porthdinllaen RNLI Crewe Fundraising Triathlon later this month (September).

The event takes place on Saturday, 12 September 2026, starting at the Tŷ Coch Inn and includes:

• 🚴 Cycling from Porthdinllaen to Llanberis
• 🥾 Climbing Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and returning
• 🚴 Cycling on to Felinheli
• 🚣 Rowing from Porth Dinorwig back to Porthdinllaen

There will be around 45 miles of cycling and 20 nautical miles of rowing plus the Snowdon hike and Dave and the other members of the group are hoping as many people as possible will donate to the JustGiving page here

Dave said: "Two years ago, our lifeboat crew rowed from Wicklow in Ireland to North Wales which was about 60 miles and last year we cycled from Wales back to Wicklow (130miles), so we thought this year we'd try a combine the two with a mountain walk!

"We've done quite a bit of training in preparation for this year but we know it's still going to be long and tough on the day.

"The rowing is a nod to tradition when the lifeboats used to be rowed out in all weathers. Those folks were amazing, real hard core!

"We still go out in all weathers but now have state of the art equipment and training to keep us as safe as can be, but it's all charity funded so we're trying to do our bit too."
