An accomplished Sandbach playwright is getting ready to watch one of his plays performed in the town for the first time.

But the playwright won't be sitting in the audience - for the talented wordsmith, David Muncaster, is the director.

Members of the Saxon Players go on stage with their first play of 2024 this week - "The Beginner's Guide to Murdering Your Husband".

The play is written and directed by David Muncaster, himself a member of Saxon Players, a group he helped form.

David started writing plays many years ago and has written around 20, including the latest one being performed by the Saxon Players.

"It's been performed in other parts of the world such as New Zealand and Germany where it was translated into German," said David.

"It's also been performed in Yorkshire, Scotland and Sussex but never in Sandbach.

"It doesn't have a big set and only needs a small cast so is appealing. It's a great production to watch and the audience will love it."

David, 65, who worked in IT before retiring, is looking forward to seeing the production on stage.

"We've been rehearsing hard," said David, who has finished on his next play, an adaptation of 'The Daughter of Time'.

"The Beginner's Guide to Murdering Your Husband" invites the audience to witness the recording of a training video to appear on the TikTok channel Murder Made Easy.

The main character, Jackie, presents a variety of methods for disposing of an unwanted husband, aided by Jim, her real-life husband, and her faithful employees.

But is she really trying to get rid of her husband? Is the video just a ruse to lull him into a false sense of security? We'll have to wait until later in the week to find out!

The Saxon Players' Jo Sutton, who won 'Best Individual Performance' for her portrayal of her own great-grandmother in Hannah's Left Hook at the Wilmslow One Act Play Festival, plays the main character, Jackie.

"Jo will excel in this role and we're all looking forward to the production," said David, who also wrote group's last play, The Frogs, a Greek comedy.

David wrote had to "The Beginner's Guide to Murdering Your Husband" several years ago and had to alter it slightly to bring it up to date, such as adding TikTok and references to mobile phones.

"We've been rehearsing hard and it's a great production so can't wait to see it go on stage."

The play runs from Thursday (March 21st) to Saturday (March 23rd) at Sandbach Masonic Hall and tickets, priced £10, are available through this link here
