A Sandbach pub is helping to raise funds for a community playing field left to the area by a salt firm.

The Rookery Tavern in Elton Road, Ettiley Heath is holding a car boot sale this weekend to raise funds for Ettiley Heath Playing Field in Sandy Lane.

And the pub has laso launched a book club where customers donate books and also buy them with a 50p donation to the playing field association.

Residents living near a community playing field (pictured above) in Sandbach have launched a campaign to raise money to carry out improvements.

Ettiley Heath Playing Field in Sandy Lane was donated to the community in the 1950 by salt firm, Palmer Mann as we revealed in this story here .

Ettiley Heath Playing Field group also launched the '100 Club' – a small monthly lottery where members pay £12 a year and each month three numbers are selected.

A spokesperson for the group said previously: "It's mainly used now by dog walkers and as a handy byway to the local convenience store, although it once it hosted football matches.

"Contrary to many people's understanding, it isn't council-owned and is managed by a committee of local supporters and volunteers. Many locals help to litter-pick and keep the field in good order. But we would like to do a lot more.

"We have a small play area which we would like to extend, we have a poor field surface that we would like to improve and better equipment to manage it. There is also a need for more bins and seating and a wildlife area would be a welcome addition too.

"But we need your help particularly if you live near Elton Road or on the roads bordering the field. We don't have any regular income, depending on donations and small grants."
