A Sandbach pub is celebrating after being invited to attend the 'Publican of the Year' awards.

Emma Bateman and Tina Edmonstone who run The Militiary Arms in Congleton Road are attending the event on Tuesday (March 29th).

Pub Manager, Emma, said they were invited by their area manager and are "super proud".

"The recognition means the world to us and without our amazing staff and customers we wouldn't be where we are today," said Emma.

"We're one of two pubs to be invited from our area and we're absolutely delighted. "

As reported in Sandbach Nub News here .a major revamp was carried out last year.

The pub's historical link with the oak leaf and acorn was highlighted in new signage using a military symbol.

The oak leaf and acorn symbol was used by the Cheshire Regiment for 72 years until 2007 when it adopted the Mercian Regiment Badge.

According to history, George II was saved by members of the Cheshire Regiment at the Battle of Dettigen.

As a thank you, he picked up a sprig of oak from a tree he was sheltering under and gave it to the soldiers. Oak leaves were then worn in the presence of royalty by the Cheshire Regiment.

The oak leaf and acorn logo are used throughout the pub. The garden was also given a makeover and new plants and furniture added and after the second lock down, a pergola was added with extra seating at the front of the pub.

New blinds have been added to the pub using a local company and plans are afoot to have new resin at the front on Congleton Road.

Fingers crossed for Emma and Tina on Tuesday. Let's hope they come back with some good news!
