A Sandbach pub is calling on all veterans to join them for an Armed Forces breakfast club this weekend.

The aptly-named Military Arms in Congleton Road is the location for the monthly Armed Forces Veterans Club.

On Saturday (January 27th), breakfasts will start being served at 9.30 am, with the doors opening at 9am.

A spokesperson said: "It is a chance for serving and veterans of the armed forces to come together on a regular basis.

"There are no subs taken, free flowing tea, coffee and juice. Small breakfast costs £6 and a large one is £8. Call Laura 07943 564884 @ Morrey's Medley's or The Military Arms 01270 765442."

The Military Arms has an interesting history. The oak leaf symbol was used by the Cheshire Regiment for 72 years until 2007 when it adopted the Mercian Regiment Badge.

According to history, George II was saved by members of the Cheshire Regiment at the Battle of Dettigen.

As a thank you, he picked up a sprig of oak from a tree he was sheltering under and gave it to the soldiers. Oak leaves were then worn in the presence of royalty by the Cheshire Regiment. The oak leaf and acorn logo are used throughout the pub.
