A Sandbach runner who has taken on many feats, including the London Marathon, has notched up another challenge.

Dave Hursthouse, assistive technology project manager at Hill House, Leonard Cheshire Home in Sandbach, took part in the Pen Llyn Ultra series at the weekend.

The fitness fan did the 50 mile ultra run along soft sand beaches and scrambling rocky trails, running for over 15 hours.

He did the London Marathon this year, as we revealed here to raise money for Leonard Cheshire.

"The run was my third big run of the year. The Pen Llyn ultra loops the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales," said Dave.

"It was a 5am start with 93 other runners. It's a hard run along soft sand beaches, scrambling rocky trails and pushing through thick foliage in some sections with over 5,250 feet of ascent in total (that's about 1.5 x the height of Snowdon).

"I burned off over 6,000 calories on the day and was running for a little over 15 hours in total!

"Not my fastest run but it was great soaking up the scenery and having my wife, family and friends cheering me on at various points throughout the day.

"I finished 42nd out of 93 runners but was happy just to finish! This was my 14th marathon/ultramarathon.

"I don't think I'm done yet but always on the look-out for a new and interesting challenge so watch this space."
