Sandbach salon owner urges people to see dyslexia as a "gift" like Sir Richard Branson

By Deborah Bowyer   10th Oct 2021

A Sandbach salon owner has praised Virgin tycoon, Sir Richard Branson, for speaking out about dyslexia during Dyslexia Awareness week.

Sir Richard aired his views on BBC Five Live in Short saying "the world needs more dyslexic thinking".

He told how a quote from Albert Einstein had inspired him saying: "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant.

"We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift."

He said he has come to treasure his "gift", something which Sally Coles-Robertson, managing director of Sisu salon in Georges Walk, wholeheartedly agrees with.

Successful businesswoman, Sally wasn't diagnosed with dyslexia until she was 40. She urges people to celebrate dyslexia during Dyslexia Awareness Week which ends tomorrow (Monday 11th October).

"I'm still quite often accused of being stupid, weird, special, an idiot, nutter and much more but I'm beginning to trust my own judgement more and more and stop hearing those words, " said Sally.

"I'm true to myself, an entrepreneur and a fabulous mum to my three children. I adore my staff and franchisees and I'm blessed.

"Without my dyslexia I wouldn't be where I am now. I started out in business at just 18 years old because I was sacked from my job for sticking up for some junior staff.

"I was unemployable with no qualifications. Being dismissed was the best thing that happened back in 1986.

"Moral of the story – embrace being weird and odd and more importantly shout out for dyslexia. British Dyslexia Association #goredfordyslexia Richard Branson."
