He did it! A Sandbach teacher and avid cricket player is waiting to see if it has got into the Guinness World Records after doing an event as part of his cricket club's 150th anniversary celebrations.
Current first eleven player and right arm bowler Sam Goodwin, a teacher at Offley Primary Academy ran from Spyder Bats in Tunstall to Alsager Cricket Club where he plays with the ball which he opened an anniversary match.
The distance, around 11 k, will hopefully break the current world record held by an Australian in Perth of 7.8 km.
Sam, 24, charged from the Tunstall to arrive at the Fairfield Avenue location to deliver the opening ball in Friday's (July 26th) match.
The current record stands at 7.8km. Sam's run-up passed through Kidsgrove and Sandyford whose cricket clubs are also celebrating their 150th anniversaries.
The teacher and avid cricket fan, who teaches in Sandbach but lives in Alsager, said of his world record run carrying the ball which opened the match: "It was fine. We just kept going until we got to Alsager.
"It's just a case of waiting to see if we have completed everything we need to make this a world record. It'll great if we have made this a world record."
Sam's epic opening ball saw the chairman's XI versus the president's XI celebratory game get underway at around 6pm on Friday night.
Club chairman, Alan Stancliffe said previously: "This year is a very special year for our club so we thought we would mark it with a special match and a world record attempt.
"We hope to see lots of people at the club to cheer Sam on and see some of our former stars returning to play."
"It's quite some run up that the poor lad's got to put himself through but this is a truly special occasion – once in a lifetime sort of stuff!
"He'll be fine. Just hope he doesn't overstep…"
