Sandbach Town Hall is set to host an event showcasing vegan food and drink across 25 stalls this summer.

This will be only the second time the Cheshire Vegan Fair has taken, with the 2020 event being cancelled during the pandemic.

The products on offer aim to highlight the variety available to the growing number of people switching to a plant-based diet.

Emma Cox, one of the fair's organisers, said: "More people than ever before are interested in veganism. Our events are a celebration of all things vegan; fun days out where people can try delicious foods, browse cruelty-free products and watch live entertainment.

"Our stallholders are really passionate and knowledgeable; many of the products are handmade by small, local businesses."

The number of vegans in the UK quadrupled between 2014 to 2019 from 150,000 to 600,000.

Emma says the reason for the rapid growth in veganism is down to people being able to "connect the dots" between meat consumption and issues like poverty in developing nations, animal mistreatment on "factory farms", and their own health concerns.

She added: "Combine that with increasing awareness of the worldwide environmental destruction taking place and many people find the reasons to become vegan very compelling.

"At a local level, many people now know friends and family members who are vegan and keep hearing more and more about it everywhere they look. Once their curiosity kicks in they are ready to join the fun at our events," she added.

Emma said the fair will feature a "beautiful range of freshly made savoury and sweet food, eco-friendly products, handmade gifts, health and beauty products and charity stalls".

The Liverpool-based Fantasy Performers will also be putting on a live show at the fair.
